Gemade urges Buhari to act on herdsmen and appoint more Tivs in his Government

Worried by incessant killings of people in Benue state by herdsmen, former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Senator Barnabas Gemade (APC, Benue North East), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on security agencies to end the killings.

In a statement issued in Abuja yesterday, Gemade, who is the current chairman of the Senate Committee on Housing, lamented that herdsmen had practically removed several communities ‎in Benue state, particularly those in the Tiv areas through the orgy of killings and maiming carried out so far.

He further pleaded with the president to direct the security forces fighting terrorists, cattle rustlers and armed herdsmen to double their efforts and tackle “armed herdsmen” killing innocent people in Benue and other parts of the country.

As a result of the killings, huge refugee camps had been set up at Yogbo, Ortese and Daudu and the border town of Kadroko, all in Guma local government area of Benue state.

He, however, assured the President of his continuous support and of Benue people in his successful fight against corruption and insurgency and commended him for the appointments of Mr. Tor Uja as the DG, NCPC, and Maj.-Gen. India Garba; chairman, NIMASA, and pleaded for more appointments for Benue people, especially of the Tiv nation, that voted massively for the APC.
