The fresh investigation into Saraki, his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu and two others was passed through a letter to the current Inspector General of Police would now enable to prosecution of the suspects.
The AGF noted that after reviewing the initial case, the investigations were inconclusive and therefor has ordered the reopening of the case.
"The NPCC and the new legal team engaged to take over the prosecution of the above case have reviewed the case file and found that the police investigation of the case was inconclusive. Therefore, it is necessary that you further investigate the case with particular reference to the following:
Did the Seventh Senate at any time amend the Senate Standing Orders 2011? If yes, what was the extent of amendment," the letter read.
It was reported that the Presidency had trained 80 prosecutors, divided into 20 teams with the sole intention of effectively prosecuting Senate President, Bukola Saraki of corruption charges.
Saraki and his deputy are to face charges for allegedly forging Senate Rules in 2015 after last week's arraignment was botched due to the inability of the court to effect summons on them.
The two are accused of tampering with the standing rules to facilitate an election which brought them into power.
