Davido Arested Over Friend’s Death

Davido Arested Over Friend’s Death

Davido

Investigations into the death of Tagbo Umeke, a friend of hip-pop artiste, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, took a different dimension yesterday, following his arrest upon discovery that his statement was laced with falsehood.

Davido reportedly told an investigative team at Lion Building division, Lagos Island, that he was not at Shisha Bar, from where the deceased was rushed and dumped at the Lagos Island General Hospital.
In his statement, Davido also said that he had left the bar for DNA Night Club on Victoria Island,

Lagos where he was informed about Umeke’s death.
However, while briefing journalists on the update of the investigation yesterday, the state Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, said that preliminary investigation showed that the late Umeke was rushed to the hospital on Davido’s instruction. Consequently, Davido was arrested yesterday.

A sober Davido was sighted in a white hood shirt on a pair of pants at the command’s headquarters yesterday in company with his lawyer. He was moved to Lion Building about 5p.m. where he was still being quizzed as at time of writing this report.

Edgal said: “About 9.20a.m. on October 3, 2017, the Chief Security Officer of Lagos Island General Hospital alerted the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Lion Building, that an unidentified male was brought in dead in an ash colour Toyota Camry car with number plate LSD 738 EL. The victim was alleged to have been brought in by two unidentified males.
“The DPO rushed to the scene and identified the victim as Tagbo Umeke, from the international passport found in the car. Shortly after, one Caroline Danjuma, an actress and the victim’s fiancée published on her Instagram page that her boyfriend died in the company of some friends among who was Davido.

“In my usual style of fact findings, I called for a meeting with the family of the deceased, Davido’s family, Davido, Caroline Danjuma, including the DPO Lion building and the investigative team. The meeting established that the deceased, Tagbo Umeke, met and had drinks with friends among who was Davido at Shisha Bar.

“The bar attendant confirmed that he (deceased) had 40 shots of Tequila and exhibited clear signs of drunkenness. The CCTV footage which I called for showed that the deceased was quarrelsome and violent in that meeting.”

The commissioner insisted that Davido confirmed that he left Shisha Bar without the deceased to DNA Night Club and that he was only informed of the victim’s death at DNA club.
But against that claim, investigations revealed that Davido’s white Toyota Hilux escort driver, Tunde Usutu, accompanied by Agbeje Olaoye and Idris Busari, both Davido’s friends, took the deceased to the General Hospital, Lagos and abandoned him in his vehicle on the instruction of Davido.

He also hinted that the CCTV footage at the hospital recorded the escort vehicle and all that transpired. The vehicle was recovered from Davido’s residence at 7, Awosika Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

The interim autopsy report stated that the victim died of Asphyxia which literally means suffocation.
“At the end of this fresh round of investigation, I will tell Lagosians our findings,” Edgal added.

Chocolate City Boss, Audu Maikori Arrested By The Police

Audu Maikori, a Nigerian lawyer and CEO of Chocolate City Entertainment, has been arrested by the police. The arrest is linked to his tweets about a fatal attack on his relatives in Southern Kaduna that turned out to be false, his lawyer said Friday.
Mark Jacobs told PREMIUM TIMES that Mr. Maikori, 41, was arrested in Lagos around noon Friday by a team of police officers attached to inspector-general monitoring and intelligence team and was immediately transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
“I arrived at the Force Headquarters and learnt that a detention order has already been signed for him,” Mr. Jacobs said of his client. “I am not sure he will be released tonight.”
Mr. Jacobs said he was told by the police that a magistrate issued warrant for Mr. Maikori’s arrest and are planning to charged him with attempt to “incite” the public.
Police spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, did not immediately respond to  requests for comments Friday night.
The arrest of Mr. Maikori, a vocal advocate for the plight of residents of the restive area, came nearly four weeks after he narrated an attack that purportedly took place in Southern Kaduna.
In a series of tweets on January 23, Mr. Maikori said his driver, later identified as Simon Joseph, told him that he lost his brother in a Fulani herdsmen ambush in Southern Kaduna and will be travelling for burial.
“My driver’s younger brother and five others students of college of education Gidan Waya were ambushed and killed by herdsmen yesterday #SouthernKaduna.
“They were in a commercial car going back to school when the driver stopped suddenly under the pretext of checking his engine #SouthernKaduna.
“As soon as the car stopped the attackers shot all 6 students but let the driver who is Fulani go. He gave us these details#SouthernKaduna.
“When we speak we are viewed as trouble makers by the Govt. Well I have seen the pictures and it’s a painful sight#SouthernKaduna,” Mr.
Social media users became livid after Mr. Maikori’s vivid naration of the purported attack.
Audu Maikori

The tweets were later picked up by some Nigerian newspaperswithout further checks.
Two days later, Kaduna State College of Education in Gidan Waya, where Mr. Maikori said the students were schooling, issued a statement denying any loss of students to an attack as described by Mr. Maikori.
The Kaduna State Government condemned the misinformation and the reporter responsible for the story in Vanguard Newspaper was arrested and charged.
On February 4, following intense criticism on social media, Mr. Maikori retracted and apologised for posting the tweets in a lenghty article that also offered detailed explanation of how he was misled by Mr. Joseph.
“I hereby tender an unreserved and sincere apology to the Management of the College of Education, Gidan Waya, His Excellency the Governor of Kaduna State and the Kaduna State Government, and also to the people of Southern Kaduna and the Fulani community and also VANGUARD newspapers whose source was my driver for the false statement by my driver which I also publicized believing same to be true,” Mr. Maikori wrote.
Mr. Jacob said Mr. Maikori’s driver was arrested a few days ago in Lagos, and had remained in detention ever since.
Mr. Maikori’s arrest caused social media buzz late Friday, with a prominent human rights activist and legal expert, Chidi Odinkalu, calling for his immediate release.
Mr. Odinkalu, a former Chairman of National Human Rights Commission, was among the first to raise alarm about Mr. Audu’s arrest Friday night.
“They should immediately release him because he had apologised for the tweets and I don’t think the matter is a criminal offence that warrants him being locked up for so many days,” Mr. Odinkalu told PREMIUM TIMES by telephone.
Over 200 have been killed and thousands more displaced in the latest violence between Fulani herdsmen and southern Kaduna residents.
A curfew Governor Nasir el-Rufai imposed in Zangon Kataf was relaxed last week.
Mr. El-Rufai said the attackers were herdsmen from neighbouring countries who had returned to avenge attacks on their relatives and livestock back in 2011.
The governor came under fire after admitting he had sent payments to the attackers to compensate for their losses, as part of efforts by his government to end the bloodshed.
A foundation laid by the Nigerian Army for the construction of a military base in the area was destroyed last week.

Just days ago, D’banj was still included on the list that was shared online when the label announced it has signed rappers Tyga and Migos. This caused a buzz amongst the Emergency crooner’s fans who were glad he was still affiliated with Kanye’s label.

Now, it appears D’banj and a couple of other artistes have been dropped by the label.

D’banj was signed to GOOD music in 2011 and throughout his time with the label, he failed to release an album. He was only featured on the label’s compilation album Cruel Summer in 2012 and also made a cameo in Kanye’s Mercy which he was mocked for by Nigerians.

Why am no longer releasing music in Nigeria

Mode 9

When Nigerian rap legend, Mode 9, announced that his latest project, ‘Insulin,’ would be his last album released in Nigeria, some thought he was joking while others believed the veteran rap artiste was about to hang his boot and retire from music.

However, while chatting with Saturday Beats, Mode 9 said that he was sticking to his decision and that he was no longer releasing albums on the shores of Nigeria.

He also debunked insinuations that he was retiring from music.

He said, “After this last album, ‘Insulin,’ I am done releasing albums in Nigeria. I purposely did not make too much noise about this album, I just released it and those who appreciate it have been giving me positive feedback. I don’t know if I would release more albums but I am very certain that I would not release any other album in Nigeria. I can release my album somewhere else but not here in Nigeria.

“I have not given up on Nigeria but did Nigerians not give up on me? Things are not like they were about seven years ago. Things are getting too difficult, so I decided to release this ‘Insulin’ album and I am done here. I already have my next chapter planned out. I am not retiring from music and Nigerians should not worry about me. I have left a lot of materials for them and they can always go and buy and listen to them. I am happy this last album made an incredible impact especially on my core fan base. This is the most airplay I have got in a while ever since I became an independent artiste. It is always good to step aside when the ovation is loudest.”
