The Benue Commissioner for Works, Transport and Energy, Mr Emmanuel Manger, said on Friday that the State Government had commenced a process to generate 10 megawatts of electricity.
Manager, who made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Markudi said the move was part of the state’s industrialisation policy.
The commissioner said it had become necessary for the state to source extra power supply to boost its industrial drive.
“The main challenge of industrialisation remains poor electricity supply.
When completed, the project will benefit the industrial layout in Makurdi and increase power supply to other parts of the state,” he said.
The commissioner said that the ministry would set up a department of energy to ensure the success of the scheme.
“We have had meetings with investors and they are willing to invest in the state for green energy supply,” Manager stated.
