Why we arrested man who named his dog Buhari - Police

Why we arrested man who named his dog Buhari - Police

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Abdulmajid Ali, says the case of Joe Chinakwe, who named his dog Buhari, has no connection with President Muhammadu Buhari.

The AIG said the man named after his neighbour’s father and not the President.

He said Chinakwe was not arraigned for naming the dog Buhari, but for inscribing the name on both sides of the dog and parading it around the Ketere area of Sango Ota, in the Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, adding that his behaviour was capable of causing a breach of the peace.

Chinakwe, who had been released on bail, was arraigned after his neighbour, Halilu Umar, whose late father bore Buhari, reported him to the police.

In a statement on Monday, by the zone 2 command spokesperson, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, the AIG, stated that the case was misconstrued as an attack on the President.

The statement read in part, “The case has nothing to do with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Mohammad Buhari, but with one Alhaji Buhari, the biological father of the complainant, Alhaji Halilu Umar.”

“It is fundamental to state that the man was not charged to court for christening his dog Buhari, but for the behaviour of the suspect and  circumstances surrounding  the matter when Mr. Joe (Chinakwe), who had been having conflicts with his neighbour,(complainant) named his dog Buhari, his neighbour’s father’s name, inscribed  Buhari on both sides of the said dog, and started parading the dog with swagger among his neighbours and traders who are mostly northerners.”

Niger Delta Avengers bows to Buhari, says no more bombings

Niger Delta Avengers bows to Buhari, says no more bombings

There is good news from the Niger Delta.

The militants whose attacks have caused a huge dip in Nigeria’s oil exports, forcing the economy into a big crisis, said last night that they were done with the hostilities.

The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) broke the news in a letter posted on its website by its spokesman, Mudoch  Agbinibo, and addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari. It also spoke of the need for regular dialogue to take place for the Nigerian union to survive.

Presidential spokesman Femi Adesina welcomed the cessation of hostilities by the Avengers as “a good development which is in the interest of the country and especially the Niger Delta people.”

He said “anything that portends peace is always good,” adding that “we hope that it cuts across board and it is sincere.”

The Avengers alleged that the Federal Government was out to execute a predetermined genocide against the people of the Niger Delta through the recently launched Operation Crocodile Smile, which the military high command has explained as just a training drill designed to prepare the Amphibious Division for a better mastery of the Niger Delta terrain.

The group also observed that the Nigerian system would work better if the Federal Government learns from the developed democracies to allow internal protests and conflicts aimed at greater good of the nation.

“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to put away the garb of a stooge to the imperialists, whenever he speaks outside Nigeria. We have listened carefully and halted hostilities in the Niger Delta. We expect a genuine and positive attitude to restructuring and self-determination for every component unit of Nigeria. Dear president, what makes those countries (Japan, Germany, France, USA, Britain etc.) great is the ability of their governments to accommodate internal protestations and conflicts for the greater good of their nations over the years.

“Nigeria is not a one-man personal property. We must have these talks every time if this union must continue to work as one. The people of the Niger Delta have been living here from time immemorial, so we have the secret of the terrain and survival of amphibious operations.

“No amount of troop surge and simulation exercises will make you win the oil war; you can only win battles. You cannot apply the might of the state to restore the people’s confidence in your leadership when you cannot differentiate between genuine demands and being mismanaged by disorganised characters and tribal lords around you in your government that are playing the court jesters’ role as well as counting the days that is left in your four years term.

Niger Delta Avengers
“You can deceive the whole world but we cannot be deceived by the so glamorized ongoing military operations in the creeks of Ijaw communities in the Delta coded “ Operation Crocodile Smiles”… the world should knows that with your pronouncement in Kenya and your attitude to the military build-up in the Niger Delta, it is crystal clear that the military has nothing less than a pre-determined genocide in Niger Delta and burn more already scared national resources to the pockets of those that have failed to locate the missing Chibok School Girls.

“Please also tell those foreign nations that your troops are about carrying out extrajudicial killings in the Niger Delta in violation of Article Four of the Geneva Convention with “OPERATION CROCODILE SMILE”. All sane minds know the meaning of “ CROCRODILE TEARS” so by code-naming your military operation CROCODILE SMILES only betrays your motives and attitude to the whole world about the Niger Delta question.”

With an end to bombings, there is hope for increased oil and gas production, which will translate to more revenue for the Federation.

The militants in the last few months hit major pipelines including Shell’s Nembe Creek Trunk Line (NCTL) and Forcados terminal, ExxonMobil and Agip’s facilities. These attacks led to shut-in of various crude grades from Nigeria.

At the peak of the attacks, production dropped to 1.4 million barrels per day (bpd) against a budgeted 2.2 million bpd. Production had risen to 1.9 bpd before the renewed attacks.

Kuja prison break: A plot by security agencies to kill Kanu

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, said security agencies yesterday attempted to kill its leader, Nnamdi Kanu by firing canisters of teargas into his cell at Kuje Prisons, with the intention to suffocate him to death. Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Comrade Emma Powerful made this known in a statement in Enugu yesterday.

Kanu
Nnamdi kanu Nnamdi kanu The statement read: “The Federal Government and it’s secret police, the DSS through the prison authorities and warders in charge of Kuje Prisons have perfected arrangements to snuff life out of our leader, Mazi Kanu and those with him in the prison by separating the inmates who had misunderstanding with fellow inmates.

There were teargas and gun shots into Mazi Nnamdi Kanu ‘s cell for him to die systematically. “However, we observed that the government and its security agents through their prison warders orchestrated the violence in the prison in order to have excuses to eliminate Kanu.

“The orchestrated violence to be executed by prison warders started when the security agents shot sporadically towards the doors and windows where our leader Mazi Kanu and two other IPOB members were being detained. “The prison officials went to search some prison inmates whose cells were very far from where Kanu and two others were kept but all of a sudden, they started shooting live bullets towards the direction where our leader was kept.

The cannon of teargas was thrown inside the room that he stays. “Right now, we don’t know the condition of our leader and others detained with him. “We are calling on the international community, the United Nations UN, the African Union AU, lovers of freedom, Amnesty International, AI, Human Rights watch/NGO’s and well-meaning Nigerians who understand the meaning of self-determination to come to our rescue because right now, we don’t know the condition of our leader.

“We in IPOB family worldwide under the leadership of prophet Nnamdi Kanu are still intact in the pursuit of Biafra restoration irrespective of the attacks from the FG and DSS. “We, however, call on the agents of darkness in our midst and in Biafraland and government to look for another place because IPOB under Kanu is intact, no factions or crises within us and nobody can divide this group which has the divine mandate to liberate the people of Biafra from the shackles of slavery and bondage.

“Nevertheless, all the members of IPOB are advised to be resolute, watchful and mindful of whom they allow into their midst. We congratulate the international community, all rights organizations/NGOs, Christian community and well-meaning Nigerians who deemed it so wise to advise Nigerian government to release Nnamdi Kanu and other members of IPOB and pro Biafra agitators detained in different prisons and security cells across the country.”

FG commissions $9.7m Japanese solar power project

The Japanese Government, through its agency, Japan International Cooperation Agency, has donated solar power worth $9.7 million to the Federal Government to boost electricity in the country.

The Ambassador of Japan to Nigeria, Mr Sadanobu Kusaoke, disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday during the inauguration of the project.

Kusaoke stated that Japan considered the power sector as one of the most important areas to enhance Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

He said, “Since from 1970s, Japan has helped to finance power sector to increase the capacity of power in Kainji dam hydro power station.

“This is the 10th project of power sector by the Japan’s government since then and this will not be our last.”

He said the project which entailed the introduction of clean energy by solar electricity was donated by the government of Japan to boost power and water supply at Usman Dam Water Treatment Plant.

He said, “The project is being executed with grant assistance worth Nine Hundred and Eighty Million Japanese YEN (980,000,000 JPY) (equivalent to approximately 9.7 million USD) through JICA.”

According to Kusaoke, stable power supply is crucial to support industry and to improve economy and the lives of people.

The ambassador emphasised the importance of stable power supply to Nigeria’s quest to diversify her economy.

He commended the designer of the project, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, for its design, management and the completion of the project on schedule.

Kusaoke, who explained that the project was capable of generating 1,496MWH, added that this would result in reduction of N31.5 million per year for payment of the electricity bill.

Earlier, Mr Hirotaka Nakamura, Chief Representative of JICA, Nigeria office, said improving core infrastructure including power sector in Nigeria was one of the priority areas of the agency in Nigeria.

According to Nakamura, developing alternative energy resources such as solar, wind and hydropower will boost electricity in the country.

He explained that the project was designed to introduce a demonstration unit of solar electricity generation system with a view to increasing its economic strength on a sustainable basis.

According to the JICA official, with the Japanese assistance, about 1.2 mw of grid connected solar generation will be gained at Usman Dam Water Treatment Plant to supplement electricity supply from the national grid.

He said, “Following successful tests on the installed solar system, the first phase of the project with generation capacity of 975kwp is being commissioned today.

“The second phase will bring additional 207kwp generation to this system hopefully in January 2017.”

Nakamura further stated that the project would contribute to the improvement of quality water supply in the Federal Capital Territory.

He, therefore, appealed to the FCT administration through its water board to handle the project with care and also provide sufficient funds to maintain the generation system.

In his remark, Alhaji Hudu Bello, the Director, FCT Water Board, who expressed gratitude to the government of Japan and its agency JICA, said the project would improve revenue accruable from the water sector in the FCT.

He said, “This is elaborate project that will improve water supply to the residents of Abuja; it will also reduce the rate at which we consume diesel to pump water.”

Bello said the project would reduce the cost of generating electricity and also contribute power to the national grid to improve supply within the nation’s capital.

Fight against curruption will be instistutionalised - Buhari

Kerry & Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday promised to deepen and institutionalise his administration’s ongoing anti-corruption to ensure that it continues even after his tenure.
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said the President made the promise while meeting behind closed doors with the United States Secretary of State, Mr. John Kerry, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Buhari was said to have promised his guest that in fighting corruption, his administration would work within the ambit of the law.

According him, all suspects will be treated as innocent until they are found guilty.
The President said,  “We will insist on the standards we are establishing. We are laying down administrative and financial instructions in the public service that must be obeyed. Any breach will no longer be acceptable.
“We will retrain our staff, so that they understand the new orientation. And those who run foul of these rules will be prosecuted, no matter who is involved.

“But we will be fair, just and act according to the rule of law. Anyone perceived corrupt is innocent till we can prove it.
“We will work very hard to establish documentation for successful prosecution, and those in positions of trust will sit up.”
Buhari appreciated the intervention of the US before the 2015 polls, demanding free and fair elections in Nigeria, saying, “America did not do it because of what it stands to benefit from us. You did it for the Nigerian people. It tells so much what the US stands for in the world.”

Why We Ignored Buhari’s Instruction To Release His Assets Declaration To Nigerians — Code Of Conduct

President Muhammadu Buhari recently challenged Nigerians desirous of knowing the assets he owns to approach the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to request his asset declaration documents.

But in this interview with PREMIUM TIMES team of Ibanga Isine, Evelyn Ukakwu and Georgina Bako, the bureau’s chairman, Sam Saba, explains why his Bureau will not release the document to the public despite the president advising it to do so on national television.

EXCERPT:

PT: Recently, a huge leak of document from a Panamanian law firm, Mossack Fonseca, lifted the lid on how the rich and powerful use tax havens to hide their wealth. The names of many Nigerians were found in the leak aptly called “Panama Papers.” Are you considering taking action against such people?

Many have asked us this question earlier but at that time we were not in a position to give any answer. But I later asked my counterpart in the ICPC if he was in the picture and he replied in the negative. He, however advised me to approach PREMIUM TIMES.

Already, we have some questions for certain public officers, which I will not be able to disclose at the moment. Until they finish answering those questions, I may not be able to discuss it.

PT: Can you assure Nigerians that you will take action against the indicted persons?

Didn’t you hear what I said? I said that already we have correspondences asking us what we know about specific public officers on this matter. And we are doing that. I don’t want to reveal the names to you now. But if at the end of the day, I can do that, I will let you know. But I want to let you know that government has written us and given us some names to investigate, based on what they have been reading and hearing regarding the leaked document. In fact, that was why immediately this issue came up, I thought of who to contact to help us.

PT: Talking about your ongoing case against Senate President, Bukola Saraki, are there likely to be more prosecutions in the nearest future?

We are going to discuss it at our board meeting next week, so I cannot disclose that to you right now. I am not going to commit myself now. Let the time come and we will inform you. After all, this is an ongoing conversation.

PT: Can you take us down memory lane on the number of convictions you have secured since the inception of the Bureau?

There are so many. We can give you a list of the convictions. Some people are fined. Of course, nobody is sentenced. The law does not give us that power. It’s just fines, seizure or forfeiture of the assets.

PT: What are your major challenges in the course of this assignment.

The major challenges we have are essentially lack of capacity building and inadequate funding.

PT: While CCB is Nigeria’s foremost anti-corruption agency, nothing much was heard of its operations unlike the EFCC and ICPC. Why did the bureau remain silent this long?

That has been a recurring question and I have a very simple answer for it. What most people do not understand is that the Code of Conduct Bureau is different from the EFCC and ICPC. Cases that are referred to these other agencies concern offences that have already been committed. On the other hand, the CCB is largely a preventive organisation. Is it going to make news to you today for me to say that 30 people have not declared their assets? Or that we have sent 20 names to the tribunal for default in filing their asset declaration forms? I have discovered over this period that Nigerians love a situation where they hear that this person or that person has been caught and taken to prison. That is not the nature of this agency.

This organisation was established to maintain good public service. We do that in various ways. One is through asset declaration, the other is through public enlightenment and the third method is through sanctions. And this is done through the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT. But people often ask; “Where are the convictions?” “Your level of conviction is low?” CCB is not the one that does the convictions. It is the CCT that does the convictions.

So if CCT does not give a conviction, it does not mean that CCB has not worked. We are dealing with millions of public officers, and how many people will come out to volunteer information. People are afraid of volunteering information. It is only in recent times that this whistle-blowing thing is taking shape because they see that the present administration is serious about fighting corruption.

Even then, when we take an asset declaration form to a public officer who has just retired; everybody will say they don’t know his address. Even when we are able to trace his residence and send people there, nobody takes the declaration form from the staff. As I have always said, the CCB does not have the power of arrest. These other two agencies have the power of arrest. CCT can issue a warrant and the police does the arrest.

PT: What mechanisms do you have to crosscheck and be sure that what public servants declare are true or do you just rely on what people fill in those forms?

We rely on two things – what people fill and the intelligence we gather regarding what they filled. We receive petitions, but when we look at most of the petitions, they are based on frivolous reasoning; either the petitioner and the accused fell out and then one wants to write and tarnish the image of the other.

PT: But do you have a unit that investigates the claims public servants make on their asset declaration forms?

We have a unit that verifies; though we cannot verify everybody. But we verify the executive, including the ministers. We verify principal officers of the National Assembly. We verify governors in the state and local government chairmen.

PT: Don’t you also verify judicial officers like the Chief Justice of the Federation?

Every public officer. So long as you draw a stipend from the federal, state and local government; you are a public officer. That is our own definition.

PT: How do you deal with some governors, who come in with almost nothing but when they are leaving office, amassed so many properties?

It is very difficult in the sense that you only hear these kind of stories but in reality they are not so. I’ll give you an instance. Most people will tell you that public officers own the big buildings in this town. But nobody will send even an anonymous message saying Mr. ‘A’ owns this property and we know that he does not have the capacity and legitimate means to own it. It is partly because we do not have a strong whistleblower legislation. Though the legislation is already in the pipeline, we hope that it will soon become implementable.

PT: During his maiden media chat, President Muhammadu Buhari had said you have the power to release his asset declaration document to us in PREMIUM TIMES. Would you be willing now to release the documents to us, just as the president said on live television?

I will give you a very simple answer. He said you are free but who is free? Is the CCB free? The law does not say I should release anybody’s asset declaration. The document does not become public document after declaration, it is only the CCB that is allowed by the constitution to retain custody of such documents. That is what the CCB Act says. Besides, Schedule 3, Paragraph 3 (c) of the 1999 Constitution as amended says the bureau shall have power to retain custody of such declarations and make them available for inspection by any citizen of Nigeria on such terms and conditions as the National Assembly may prescribe.

PT: And the National Assembly has in the Freedom of Information Act, prescribed that we can have access to such public document. In fact, we have already written to you. Would you oblige us now?

We answered you. Go and read your letter again. And we gave you answers as it was provided for in the FOI Act. Study the response again and compare it with these sections and you will know what I am talking about.

PT: Was the president wrong in insisting that the document should be made public? Remember late President Umaru Yar’Adua published his own based on an earlier promise. Why did you not stop him at the time?

Because he did not come to us. He just did it. And let me tell you something about late President Yar’Adua. He was already used to doing so even when he was governor. So for him, it was a normal thing. And he did not need anybody’s advice to publish it. That was his business. It has nothing to do with me. I know one director general who has put his own asset declaration on his website. He did it willingly and he told us that he just decided to do it on his own. So, it is a matter of choice. If you are a public officer and you want everybody to know about it, you can do the same.

PT: Don’t you think that is a virtue that should be encouraged?

Yes, we encourage it

PT: But if you encourage it and President Buhari said on national television that you have powers to release his own document, don’t you think you would be standing on the way of probity and transparency you are talking about?

Did the president say he has written to CCB and said ‘go and make my declarations public?’

PT: Are you saying he has to write officially to CCB before you can release the document he promised to make public during electioneering campaigns?

But the President has already declared his assets his assets are there; if there is anything in it he has not disclosed, you should have asked him specific questions

22 Benue lawmakers commence refund of N317m car loans to EFCC – Ortom

22 Benue lawmakers commence refund of N317m car loans to EFCC – Ortom

Gov. Samuel Ortom has said that 22 state legislators have started refunding car loans they collected for personal vehicles to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) . Ortom, who said this when he received youths of Turan in Kwande Local Government, said they were expected to refund N317million to the anti-graft agency in Abuja.

He said the refund was necessitated by the shoddy manner in which the loans were disbursed to the lawmakers. The governor said that the process fell short of best practices required in such financial transactions. Ortom explained that out of the number, 12 legislators were from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) while 10 were from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He expressed regrets that due process was jettisoned, which led to the lodgments of cash into the accounts of the legislators for the purchase of the cars. “After the Executive Council approved the contract for the procurement of Prado Jeeps for the assembly members, only eight were procured.” He said the contractor blamed his inability to purchase the remaining 22 vehicles on the high cost of the dollar.

“Instead of the contractor to get back to the government, he decided to meet the members directly, who opted for cash. “The EFCC after studying the contract document ordered the 22 members, who collected cash to refund the money to the commission as due process was not followed”.

The EFCC had over the past one month, played host to Benue legislators, including its leadership, in their role in the loan disbursement saga. Ortom also assured that his former amnesty boss, Terwase Akwaza, who was fleeing from arrest over his alleged role in the killing of his security aide would be arrested and brought to book. He said more than 60 of his gang members had been arrested for various crimes in the state.

President Buhari seeks emergency powers from NASS to tackle the economy

President Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari will be seeking emergency powers from the National Assembly to push his planned stimulus for the economy.

The objectives of the action-plan on the economy, which is in recession, include shoring up the value of the naira, creation of more jobs, boosting of foreign reserves, reviving  the manufacturing sector and improving power.

Government sources said the decision to seek emergency powers for the President was based on a proposal from the economic team headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. The team reviewed the various policies so far introduced and how they have affected the economy.

The economic team, it was learnt, gauged the mood of the polity and decided that unless there is an urgency which some of the extant laws will not permit, “the recession may be longer than expected and Nigerians will not get the desired respite, which is the goal of this government”.

An executive bill titled: “Emergency Economic Stabilisation Bill 2016” is to be presented to the National Assembly when the Senate and the House of Representatives resume from vacation on September 12.

In the bill, the executive will be asking for the President to be given sweeping powers to set aside some extant laws and use executive orders to roll out an economic recovery package within the next one year.

Buhari will be seeking powers to:
  •    abridge the procurement process to support stimulus spending on critical sectors of the economy;
  •     make orders to favour local contractors/suppliers in contract awards;
  •     abridge the process of sale or lease of government assets to generate revenue;
  •     allow budgetary allocation to projects that are urgent, without going back to the National Assembly.
  •     amend certain laws, such as the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Act, so that states that cannot access their cash trapped in the accounts of the commission because they cannot meet the counterpart funding, can do so; and
  •     to embark on radical reforms in visa issuance at Nigeria’s consular offices and on arrival in the country and to compel some agencies of government like the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the National Agency for Foods Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and others to improve on their turn around operation time for the benefit of business.
The extant law on procurement does not allow contract award earlier than six months after decision. Part of this is a mandatory advertisement of the contract for six weeks. The economic team has found this to be unacceptable, given our present circumstance.

Although the president has the power to order the sale or lease of any government asset to raise cash, “the procedure is cumbersome and long”. The draft bill is meant to ease the process. The government source said about nine government assets may be leased or sold to generate around $50billion to shore up the nation’s foreign reserves and the value of the naira against the United States dollar.

The source said: “Nigeria may be broke at the moment but we are not a poor country, given our assets and capability.”

About N58 billion is trapped in UBEC’s coffers because the states cannot access it as a result of the key condition, which is the payment of 50 per cent counterpart funding. The government is seeking an amendment to the law so that states will pay only 10 per cent as counterpart funding.

The objective is that state governments will have access to cash to develop education. This will facilitate creation of jobs since contracts will be awarded for the projects.

As for contract awards, the government, by the provisions of the law, cannot mobilise contractors with more than 15 per cent of contract sum. This is considered to be undesirable by the economic team given the pace the government wants to move in turning the economy around and in the provision of critical infrastructure. The bill will seek to allow the government to mobilise contractors with 50 per cent of contract sum.

The move to get government agencies to fast tract their operations is to enable foreign investors to come into the country without the current bottlenecks.

Consular offices will now be expected to make visas available within 48 hours and visitors, especially tourists who intend to pick up visas at the entry point, will be able to do so.

Time wasting at the airport with duplication of agencies screening incoming passengers is to be eliminated. Those leaving the country should go without hassle.

For the power sector, the government plans to truck gas from source to the power plants to enable them get what they need for generation.

A government source said: “This may be more expensive but it is a price to be paid for Nigerians’ comfort”.

It was learnt that President Buhari will engage the leadership of the National Assembly before their resumption to solicit support for the bill’s quick passage

Fake miracles: Tricks churches use to steal from members revealed

ENUGU—Five members of a 12-man fake prophesy syndicate, which connives with church owners to dish out fabricated testimonies to woo patronage and membership, have been arrested in Enugu. The suspects, Obi Ejike from Ubaho, Okija in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State; Kuku Mary, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State; Oluwakemi Joy, Lagos State; Nwosu Chizoba, Umunze in Anambra State, and Peter Uchechi from Ebonyi State, were nabbed at Holy Ghost Park axis weekend, following a brawl between them on the sharing formula of their booty, which attracted the attention of a police patrol team.

The ring leader, Uchechi, revealed that they were foot soldiers recruited by the handler, who remains behind the scene to give contacts of church/ministry owners, who have struck a deal with him to bring people during crusade for fake testimonies. According to Uchechi, “we operate in all the states nationwide. Once our boss calls, he will give us the contact of the church owner.

“When we arrive, we will go through the stories with the prophet or church owner before the crusade starts. The idea is for the prophet to be familiar and abreast with the story.

Miracle hour

“When it is prophetic hour, the prophet will bring us out from the crowd to the pulpit. Thereafter, the prophet, who then pretends to be praying, will touch us and we will fall down.

“The prophet will then reveal our life challenges, which supposedly brought us to the church for miracle, and we will confirm the story. At that point, the congregation will erupt in joy not knowing that all they were witnessing was a written script meant to attract patronage and membership to the church. “After the prophetic hour, offering time will follow.

It is well designed to rake in money during offering. Some people will donate their cars, write cheques and make pledges. There are a lot of problems in the society, so people are looking for quick fix. “We were at the bus stop around P&T axis in Enugu, when police swooped on us. We had operated at a ministry at Emene, Enugu, and were returning to Abuja when altercation broke out over sharing formula of the proceeds, when police arrested us.” Confirming the arrest, Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu, revealed that manhunt for other fleeing accomplices have been launched, adding “they will be prosecuted as they have made confessional statements.

“The public should be wary of new generational churches that spring up at every 10-meter radius in a desperate bid to eke a living for themselves.”
The other side of Buhari Nigerians don't know

The other side of Buhari Nigerians don't know

For so long, many Nigerians have been attempting to study and decode President Muhammadu Buhari, using different lenses. Some only had a modicum of clue on who he may be, counting on the code of information they obtained from the media when he first romped into global limelight as the Nigerian head of state in a military garb.

During that military era, Buhari occurred to a section of expectant Nigerians as a no-nonsense dictator with brazen disposition to power. Pairing in leadership with the late Brigadier Tunde Idiagbon, adjudged as restless, hardworking and unsmiling made the Buhari’s regime almost a nightmare for Nigerians who took business as usual all through the period he reigned as Head of State.

Nonetheless, many perceived and saw Buhari as a Messiah with the military government he presided over. Nigeria was in rot when he took over in 1983. Indiscipline and corruption were in great synergy to incinerate the glory that Nigeria carried from independence. The sacked civilian government presided over by former President Shehu Shagari operated recklessly. Cabinet members acted like heists with moral bankruptcy while being less patriotic in the judgement of many.

When the Buhari’s military regime came on board, frustrated Nigerians troop to the streets in wild celebration. The reproach thrown up by the rising tide of social vices in all parts of the country after the collapse of Second Republic made the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) launched by his government very compelling. Nigerians were remolded by WAI in conduct and character while the government enforced discipline all through. From then on, Buhari struck gold in popularity that lingered with him till he got elected as president in May 29, 2015.

For President Buhari, history appears to be on re-hearse, as the throwback of mismanaged opportunities, which Nigeria suffered under the government of Shagari, seems to be on display again. In simple terms, the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan offered Nigerians mirrors of infractions, excesses and lack of focus akin to what political players exhibited in the Second Republic.

Nigeria gravitated towards the precipice under the government of former President Jonathan. In that government, acts of corruption ballooned uncontrollably, leading to growing terrorism, insecurity and other heinous social vices. Then battered Nigerians electorate craved for emergence of a Messiah. Again, Buhari emerged to play the role.

For President Buhari, however, saving Nigeria from imminent collapse entails a fight against corruption, terrorism and the need to re-grow the economy. He also needs to engage the swarming army of the unemployed in Nigeria in the productive sector. These are daunting challenges, which he needs to address in a short time. Yet, Nigerians appear unprepared to appreciate the enormity of the challenge and dilemma that the Buhari’s government faces day and night in efforts to correct the ills of the past, while taking off with the Change mantra.

It is not in doubt that the President has fully addressed his mind to bring about the changes that Nigeria needs. Those who work closely with him attest to his desire and determination to take Nigeria out of the woods. The aggregate view is that the reigning Nigerian President is a man to be fully understood by Nigerians who want to know where he aims to take their country.

Buhari, is said to start his day, leaving no one around him in doubt that the ‘change’ that he preaches must start from his own office. The President leads by example. He is said to be desirous of building up institutions that will outlive him. He is also said to depend on his protocol department to operate hitch free standards on crowd control in the seat of government.

The president is a stickler   for time with perceived determination to change the poor attitude of Nigerians on time matters. He attends events on schedule, gradually sweeping off all elements on time wasting that had for years led to waste of public funds. Under him, guests at events are never kept waiting for hours in a manner they were used to with past Presidents and leaders.

By his body language, President Buhari appears not keen on living the opulence that the presidential power offers. His close aides attest to the fact that the President eats moderately, dons moderate attires, rides in official cars, while he most eagerly avoids any act likely to generate a scandal.

Although, there have been hues on the long list of foreign travels he had made so far, only a few knew that President Buhari, all along, has not been collecting allowances, or rather estacodes, contrary to insinuations. He is said to be content with arrangements made for his comforts by host countries. Buhari is also noted to have pruned down the number of officials in his entourage on every trip as a means of saving cost.

Before Buhari came to power, successive President’s saw nothing wrong in subjecting Abuja residents to long grueling hours of discomfort in traffic gridlocks with roadblocks to ease their movements in and out of Abuja. President Buhari has put a stop to that, offering a relief by flying in helicopter to his destinations, most especially to free the traffic along the airport road.

President Buhari once went to an open eid-ground in Abuja for prayers and surprisingly found himself surrounded by more than a mammoth crowd of admires, all surging to catch a glimpse of him. The stampede which ensued in the process reportedly touched the President who immediately resolved to limit his spiritual exercises to the Presidential Villa.

For Nigerians who crave to understand the President better, Ministers and heads of governments have been having the free will to display initiatives while not being emasculated. According to reports, President Buhari only acts as an enabler, a guide for ensuring that the plans by his government to re-invent Nigeria works in the long run. The desire by the President to allow institutional growth and development is the reason he hardly meddles in the affairs of the other arms of government; the legislature and judiciary, which he felt have the internal mechanism to make adjustments each time they erred.

By now critics should be aware that the success President Buhari has been recording in the fight against terrorism and corruption, the process of regenerating the economy through diversification as well as his cost saving initiatives, are a testament that his government is on the right track towards bringing back hope for the citizens.

Niger Delta avengers declear ceasefire, ready for dialogue

Militant Group, Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) has declared a cessation of hostilities in the Niger Delta region.
Niger Delta Avengers also declared support for any negotiating team led by Chief Edwin Clark’s Niger Delta elders and stakeholders conference held last Friday.

In a statement by its spokesperson,  Mudoch Agbinibo, NDA said it will cease all hostilities against the interests of oil companies but warned that it will engage in asymmetric warfare during the period should the Federal Government use security agencies to harass or intimidate its suspected members.

“We are going to continue the observation of our unannounced cessation of hostilities in the Niger Delta against all interests of the multinational oil corporations, but we will continuously adopt our asymmetric warfare during this period if the Nigerian government and the ruling political APC continues to use security agencies/agents, formations and politicians to arrest, intimidate, invade and harass innocent citizens, suspected NDA members and invade especially Ijaw communities”

“We are going to support any collective negotiation team emerging from the Chief (Dr.) Papa Edwin Kiagbodo Clark Niger Delta elders and genuine stakeholders conference to engage with the federal government of Nigeria, representatives from the home countries of all multinational Oil Corporations and neutral international mediators that will be focused on achieving the short, medium and long term frameworks and objectives to de-escalating conflicts in the Niger Delta.

“Most of the frameworks and objectives are clearly stated in various reports, declarations and recommendations of the likes of the Sir.Henry Willinks minority rights reports of pre-independence Nigeria (1957-8), The Kaiama Declaration document, The General Alexander Ogomudia report, The Ledum Mittee-headed Niger Delta Technical Committee report and restructuring to fiscal federalism”

“We want the peace with honour this time around! Our advice to our Niger Delta elders and genuine stakeholders is that whenever this inhuman project called Nigeria and her government is ready for dialogue/negotiations with them, this mandate should be treated with that care as driving a vehicle like that of a truck laden with fire"

“We promise to fight more for the Niger Delta, if this opportunity fails. Therefore, we will give our Niger Delta elders and genuine stakeholders that tacit support to the dialogue table with the government and the multinational oil corporations whenever the enabling environment prevails”

“We also use this medium to warn those using rogue platforms like the defunct so-called MEND, RNDA- Cynthia Whyte, especially Charles Okah who is franchising these internet-based banditry from his prison cell, through Victor Ebikabowei Ben (Boyloaf), Timipre Silva, Selekaye Ebikabowei, Ayirimi Emani, Michael Johnny, Governor Adams Oshiomole to please inform those their paymasters that the days of doom are here.

“That those sold and bought up interests from around the corridors of power cannot arm-twist the NDA with bandits, drug addicts, illegal bunkerers, bank robbers and disorganized characters to derail the Niger Delta struggle"

Secrets of winning big on Nariabet revealed

The new European season has began with matches been played across different leagues in Europe and lots of soccer enthusiast are gearing up to make cool cash from football betting. There are so many ways which bets can be placed on different betting platforms and I am working on bringing this to the fore, for the benefits of all to reduce the possibility of suffering huge losses. This article however, is centered on tricks that will guarantee winning big with Nairabet.

There are  many strategies applicable to football betting which can be adopted while placing bets on Nairabet. lots of people employ "accumulation" betting strategy where they place bets on teams with the lowest odds while others only place bets on singles with at least odds of 1.70 and above if they are sure of their predictions.

Others apply the "under and over bet" strategies which is also a recommended strategy for placing bets that can be adopted by punters. With this strategy, regardless of the outcome, whether a team wins or not, as long as the under or over is in your favour, then you have a strategy.

The major mistakes common among rookies to online betting  is accumulating more than they should, which will not only lead to massive lose but also brings about anxiety, sleepless nights and frequent checks of live scores as if ones life solely depends on it

 Football betting Strategy

The bitter reality about online betting is the fact that there is no 100% betting strategy  that works all the time but if  analysis are done properly always, then there is a better chance at success than when bets are placed without strategy with the intent to make millions in returns over night without proper analysis to determine the teams with better chances of winning and those with lesser chances before the commencement of the game.

only a small proportion of the total population of punters are making a fortune out of online betting, this they achieve through proper analysis or by way of getting predictions from a reliable source.

What this entails is that there's no shortcut to making fortunes with online betting. If you lack the zeal to commit time and efforts towards proper analysis of football teams before the games commence, you are condemned to huge loses.

Recommended strategies to win big on Nairabet

Stake only what you can afford to loose

Betting is no do or die affair. That's why it is called gambling, there is need to always see it to be fun. It shouldn't be regarded as a source of wealth or livelihood or a medium through which one can become rich over night. This is to avoid Panic, anxiety and frustration as a result of staking a bet.

Proper analysis of football teams is key

Many punters don't want to bother themselves with football analysis before staking  bets, this is considered a hug mistake on their part. proper analysis is applicable to everyone with interest in betting, time is of essence if you desire to succeed. Analysis is paramount because this provide relevant details of team which will influence your decision when staking a bet

Lots of people make this mistake and they don't bother to learn from it. There are no two ways about it, when you make analysis, you able to filter some of the teams that have poor performance ratio, your predictions resulting from  the analysis may sometimes  not be 100 percent accurate, but u stand a better chance of getting rewards from your stake than when you pick teams without proper analysis. As a result therefore, proper analysis is indispensable when it is a question of football betting. Futball24 is a good sources for data that can be used for proper analysis

Do not put all your eggs in one basket

This is a general principle in life and not just about online betting . Instead of putting all your stakes on one team, you should consider splitting them across different teams to minimise the risk.

For instance selecting betting odds of 60 and placing a stake of a thousand Naira is not the right way to place  a bet. it is understood that people will like to make a fortune on bets, but this can also be achieved by separating the games in different slips in case one team fails to provide the predicted result.

If this method is adopted, instead of losing out on the entire bet you'll make some cool money on your other slips as a result of  splitting the slips to share the risk. This is common sense, but as the saying goes "common sense is not common".

If by chance you select games that gives you over 60 odds, please do yourself  some good by sharing the odds in two separate slips. For instance, if you selected 10 games that total 60 odds, you can split the selections to 5 games on each slips and avoid repetition of same games on different slips.

If you put up your stake on different slips and one out of the two eventually did not scale through, the second slip might. By so doing you'll  not loose out completely.

Choose Betting Types That Suite You

many punters just make predictions based on recommendations from  their friends, it isn't bad to get predictions and game tips from more experienced friends who care to share but one can still adjust to the bet type that suites him. It is advisable to make personal analysis on predictions gotten from friends or other sources before adopting such predictions.

For example, if you get under and over sure bet predictions from someone, it is important to view such predictions from the context that there's no 100% sure bet until the match is played and results are made available. This is because some times teams that are given small odds like 1.05 turn to beat teams that have 20 odds.

If for instance you've been  given  an under sure bet like it is claim and the under is 0.2, instead of selecting under 0.2 on your bet slip, you can adjust it and select under 0.3 after carefully scrutinizing the teams that are playing and like wise if you are given an over game of 0.4, you can select over 0.3 or 0.2 base on the team and odds available for the adjustments. Don't just stake your bets on what you get from others, instead do little checks and if possible adjust it to suite your desire. These are some of the simple tricks you can use to win big with  football betting.

President Buhari to commission this mega project in calabar (Pictures)

Gov. Ayade & Pres. Buhari

The multi -billion Naira Calabar Light rail project , the first in Nigeria , would soon be commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari. The 12- car monorail system , when fully operational, would use an Intamin P 8 electric powered passenger shuttle train to convey passengers from Tinapa Resort, across Lake Tinapa to Calabar International Conference Centre (CICC ).

The light rail project has three stations , Tinapa , Tinapa Lakeside Hotel and the Calabar International  Conference Centre. The monorail would also allow access to Studio Tinapa , Tinapa Shopping Centre and Tinapa waterpark as well as provide a quick alternative access to Summit Hills. Built by Ponet TFZE , the train with a cruising speed of about 40 kilometres per hour, has 12 cars , including 10 passenger and two equipment cars .

Each car is primed for seven to eight passengers all seated , while the train ’ s length , width and height are approximately 38 , 1. 95 and 2. 2 metres , respectively. When fully operational , the electric -powered air-
conditioned train with 1. 62 metres height approximately in its passenger compartment , would provide a 24 -hour service.

Gov . Ben Ayade had recently told journalists in Calabar that Buhari would inaugurate the train to mark his first year in office. Ayade announced this during a second test ride of the train to ensure that the project was ready for inauguration .

The governor said the launching of the monorail would be a step toward boosting the economy and expand employment opportunities in the state . He said the state government was determined to extend the facility to Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar , as panacea to envisaged congestion of the city centre  through rapid investments inflow. The parking space at the train ’ s take- off point at Tinapa can conveniently accommodate 150 cars .

Mr Mba Mba , the station’ s Electrical Engineer, said the light rail project was completed in December last year . “ Right now , the Calabar Monorail is ready for use pending inauguration by appropriate authorities.
“ We have test- run the system and confirmed its readiness. Gov . Ben Ayade was here with his team to see for himself what is on ground.

“ Tourists troop here on daily basis to take a ride. But they were disappointed as they were turned back .     “ We always give the excuse that although services are ready, they can only have their way when it is  officially inaugurated .

“ School children on excursions , families and other curious residents, who have not seen this kind of train before , have been coming to feed their eyes and seeking to take a ride . ’’ Mr Christian Ita , Chief Press Secretary to Gov . Ayade , also confirmed that the project was completed.

“ It is awaiting inauguration ; we are waiting for a date from the presidency for its inauguration , ’’ he said .

FIRS seals off Akume's property over tax evasion

FIRS seals off Akume's property over tax evasion

Makurdi - THE Federal Inland Revenue Service on Thursday sealed off the Haf Haven Hotel, located at No24 Atiku Abubakar Way, Makurdi, belonging to a former Governor of Benue State, Senator George Akume, and his wife, Regina, over unpaid tax.

The FIRS enforcement team, led by Chinazor Edeh, said the hotel had refused to remit Value Added Tax to the Federal Government since 2011.

He gave the management of the hotel 30 minutes to do the payment before executing a warrant on them. The hotel, according to the FIRS team, is owing about N13,518,493.00 unpaid tax liabilities. The amount was made up of unpaid/ unremitted liabilities of the hotel in Company Income Tax, Withholding Tax and VAT between 2011 to 2016. The FIRS team had some challenges sealing off the facility as its management led by
Mrs. Margaret Hinger insisted that the hotel did not owe.

Hinger admitted that the hotel was aware of the tax liability saying there was delay in the payment of the said VAT because the figures were duplicated by the audit firm mandated to audit  its accounts.

Hinger said,’’We have already paid the sum of N700,000.00 to the tax office in Makurdi and I am appealing to you to unseal our hotel as we are willing to pay the over N13 million.” Hinger put a call to Mrs. Regina Akume who is the Chief Executive Officer of the hotel to speak with the leader of the FIRS team but Edeh refused to speak with her on the phone. He insisted that unless the payment of the full tax liabilities was  made, nothing would stop the execution of the warrant.

Air foce expecting 12 Mi-35 attack helicopter gunships from Russia and a set of American fighter jets

Abuja —The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Saddique Abubakar, said yesterday there was urgent need to  boost the capacity of Nigerian Air Force to meet its responsibilities. He spoke against the backdrop of  involvement of the Nigerian Air Force in the battle to rid the country of terrorism in the North East and other  serious security issues confronting the country, such as Niger Delta militancy.

To this end, Abubakar, in an  NTA programme, said that NAF would soon take delivery of 12 new Mi-35 attack helicopter gunships  fitted with modern facilities to fire guided missiles at enemy positions. Aside the gunships from Russia, he said a new set of fighter jets from the United States of America with ISR facilities would soon be delivered to  AF  as soon as the US Congress, which gives approval on manufacture and sale of such hi-tech weaponry, gave its nod. Commenting on the activities of Boko Haram terrorists and their camps in Sambisa, Air Marshal Abubakar said.

“We have degraded the capacity of the Boko Haram terrorist’s group to move  around inside the Sambisa forest. ‘’The only problem we are having is that of the terrain. It is a big challenge because the place has been mined and troops cannot just move freely.” Noting, however, that the terrorists had been fleeing the forest because of airforce bombardment, Abubakar said the task was immense.

Fayose kept under house arest, blocked by an APC

PORT HARCOURT – GOVERNOR of Ekiti state, Mr Ayo Fayose has said he was stopped from attending  his Peoples Democratic Party's  (PDP) convention  in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital on Wednesday by security operatives that blocked the gate to the old  Presidential lodge in Rivers state Government House, Port Harcourt  where he lodged with an armoured personnel career, (APC).

The media aide said all appeals to the security personnel at the gate to allow the governor go out to attend the convention were ignored. The governor decried the ugly development.
