Tor Tiv Breaks With Tradition, Declines To Be Sworn-in Before “traditional God”

In what will be a break from tradition, the newly selected paramount ruler of the Tiv people, James Ayatse, has declined to take his oath of office before “Swem”, the traditional god of the Tiv people.
According to PREMIUM TIMES, Mr. Ayatse, a professor, and two-term Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, has instead opted to be sworn in as the fifth Tor Tiv with the Bible, the holy book of his Christian faith.
The Chairman of the Planning Committee for the Coronation of the Tor Tiv V, Atom Okpera, a retired army general, disclosed this at a press conference in Gboko, Benue State on Thursday.
Swem is the traditional god of the Tiv people and has its shrine in the palace of the Tor Tiv in Gboko.
If Mr. Ayaste’s decision stands, he will be the first Tor Tiv not to take his oath of office at the shrine of the Swem. The four previous holders of the office had always invoked the powers of the Swem, whom the Tiv people revere as a “just god”, in ruling over the people.
The Swem, according to Tiv tradition, adjudicates disputes among Tiv people without fear or favour, ensuring justice irrespective of economic, political and social status of the parties to a dispute.
According to the statement by the coronation committee, other traditional rite for the coronation began on Wednesday in Gboko, with the climax and grand finale scheduled for Saturday at the Gboko mini stadium from10:00 a.m.
At the ceremony, Tiv sons and daughters were advised to appear in Tiv traditional attires. The Tiv are the dominant ethnic group in Benue State, but they are also found in large numbers in neighbouring Taraba State.

Man Bust His Curvy Wife Having Sex With His Best Friend and This Happened (Photos )

 (photos) by Towncrier247 : 8:20pm On Mar 01
Despite people actually getting killed for sleeping with other people’s wives, it seems some men never learn.
In a Facebook video currently trending on Facebook, this poor mature man was caught harvesting honey from his best friend’s bee hive and was taught a lesson he will never forget.
He got the beating of his life. The man and another friend had walked in on them probably following a tip-off.What is more shocking is the fact that they were busted in the act in her matrimonial bed.
The traitor of a boyfriend was seen and heard in the not too clear video calling the man's name and pleading, "I can explain. Pls I can explain. You people will not allow me explain", even as they kept hitting him on his clean-shaven head. The sight of the lady begging her husband to spare them is just priceless.

Advanced PDP": Makarfi Faction To Register A New Party

The crisis rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a new twist as some top members of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi faction are said to have applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register an alternative platform, DAILY POST reports
Our correspondent gathered that if all goes well, the new political party would be known as the Advanced Peoples Democratic Party (APDP).
Investigation revealed that the aggrieved PDP members approached the commission with an application shortly after the judgment of the Port Harcourt High Court which sacked the Makarfi led caretaker committee in favour of Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff’s faction of the party.
At present, INEC has no fewer than 50 applications from various interest groups seeking to be registered as political parties.
It was, however, gathered that INEC was not disposed to the registration of the APDP in order not to throw up a fresh political scandal that would taint the image of the commission.
A top official of the PDP who confided in Daily Trust yesterday said that INEC initially resisted the move to register the new party by arguing that it would be wrong for the commission to register a party with similar name with the PDP.
The source, who would not want his name in print, said the commission later accepted the application for the new party last week to commence the process of registration.
“We are making alternative efforts to register a new political party ahead of the 2019 elections. Initially, INEC was trying to dismiss it on the ground that the new name had PDP in it but we pointed out to them that our party is different in that it has ‘Advanced’ added to the PDP, which is not the same as PDP.
“We have started the process; at least the application is with them. That is the first phase, and they have not contacted us for the second phase, which is the payment of the requisite N1 million and fill their form,” the source said.
Contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of INEC, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi, said that he was not aware of the application to register the new party.

Why I Refused To Detonate My Explosive – Female Bomber

A teenager, Amina Yusuf, paraded by the military on Wednesday in Maiduguri said she failed to detonate her explosive because she did not subscribe to Boko Haram ideology.
According to The NATION, the 17-year-old told newsmen in Maiduguri that she was abducted five years ago, alongside her parents, in Madagali in Adamawa, after a terror attack on the village.
“I was abducted alongside my parents in Madagali in Adamawa after the terrorists attacked our village. We were taken to a camp in the bush where we were forcefully indoctrinated by the group,” she said.
The suspected suicide bomber alleged that her parents were killed after they had refused to be indoctrinated.
“My parents were executed because they did not join the group.
“I was married off to a Boko Haram militant with whom I lived in the camp,” she said.
“One day I was asked to wear the bombs. I was brought to Maiduguri with an instruction that I detonate the bomb where there is a large crowd of people,” the teenager added.
She said that she declined to detonate the explosive because she did not want to die.
“They said I should press the button but I refused and allowed security men to capture me alive.
“My four siblings are still with the terrorists in the camp,” Yusuf said.
Maj.- Gen. Lucky Irabor the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole had presented her along with two unindentified girls to newsmen during a weekly briefing in Maiduguri.

JAMB UTME 2017: 5 New Things To Note

The Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) has made some major changes in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) for 2017.
We updated some information on the examination earlier. More adjustments have however been made, and these are some of the things that will happen this year, that have never happened before:

1. Fourth Choice

JAMB has also introduced a fourth choice of school option for candidates but would only be able to select only one government school while filling out their forms online.

2. No choosing of public university

The following was also announced: The new registration platform will now be first choice, second choice, third choice and fourth choice and not most preferred, preferred etc as it was.
Candidates’ first choice can be a College, University, Innovative Enterprises Institutions or Polytechnic/Monotechnic. However, if a candidate makes a Public University his first choice, he will not have any public University to choose for 2nd, 3rd and 4th choice.
He will have on the remaining three choices, a College, a Polytechnic, Private University and IEI’S. However, candidates for the 2017 UTME can now select NCE (College) or ND (Polytechnic/ Monotechnic) as their 1st choice up to 3rd choice and the 4th IEI.
They can select the IEI (Innovative Enterprise Institution, ND) as their 1st choice up to the 4th choice, but can only pick a public university once.

3. JAMB form sold late

The organizers of the major examinations in the country, including JAMB met to avoid a clash in schedules and in order to have a harmonized timetable.
An agreement was reached at the national headquarters of the Board in Abuja on Tuesday, January 24, after a meeting with National Examination Council (NECO), West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Business and Technical Examination (NABTEB) to harmonize the timetable.
This is one reason the registration is yet to begin.

4. Mock UTME

While speaking the body also announced that plans were in place for a mock UTME and this might explain the delay in beginning the sales of the examination forms. So if you are preparing, start your preparations now, so you can do well in both the mock and the real deal.

5. No scratch card

Speaking on the issue of scratch card, the registrar explained that one reason for the delay was due to issues the board had with sale of scratch cards.
He said that whereas candidates used to buy scratch cards to access the forms online previously, they planned to cancel that since it had been abused thoroughly.
According to Daily Trust, he said: “What we want to do is for students to pay directly to government coffers and we are working out the process of doing so to avoid the type of abuse that it has been subjected to.
“So, we want to sell directly and to make sure that candidates pay into TSA account. We have cases of students saying their scratch cards got burnt, others saying their scratch cards were swallowed by snakes or lost in an accident.”

Benue Lecturer Kidnapped and Killed

A staff of College of Education, Katsina Ala, Benue State, has been found dead few hours after he was abducted last Saturday.
It was gathered that the victim, Godwin Yanbee Bosua, a former Bursar was on his way to his private nursery and primary school, close to the college when unknown gunmen abducted him.
His lifeless body was found on Sunday morning, February 26th, in an orchard belonging to his private school. A source close to the family said there were bruises on Bosua's body, which indicates that he was beaten by the abductors.
The remains of Bosua had been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Katsina-Ala.

"I Will Never Contest Against Buhari" — Tinubu

LAGOS— Leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, yesterday, vowed never to contest the Presidency against President Muhammadu Buhari, VANGUARD reports.
He noted that a newspaper report to the contrary was conjured to put him at odds with the President.
In a strongly worded rebuttal to the news report by the daily, Tinubu affirmed his unwavering loyalty to Buhari, saying permutations of him defecting were ignorant of his consistent political principles.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu
The daily in its front page report, Tuesday, had alleged that Tinubu had stepped up plans to contest the presidential election, irrespective of Buhari’s intentions, saying he had pencilled down three possible running mates, including Governor Aminu Tambuwal, Senator Abu Ibrahim and Serikin Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
Tinubu in his reaction issued by Mr. Tunde Rahman, his Media Assistant, said: “The story is a manufactured tale weaved by its authors to try to create division where there is none. Those who wrote this fantasy piece seek to place Asiwaju Tinubu at odds with President Buhari. Writing such a baseless report is a very foul and wrong thing to do.
Political outlook
“As long as that patriotic and committed man named Muhammadu Buhari holds and seeks to hold the mantle as our president, then Asiwaju Tinubu stands behind him in unwavering support and confidence.
“Asiwaju Tinubu remains faithful to the mission of progressive reform and change that President Buhari, he and the All Progressives Congress, APC, have started. Tinubu was instrumental in the formation and success of the APC.
“His toil and efforts helped establish this government. He is not one to tear down something he laboured so dutifully to build.”
Noting that the report aimed to skew the banter the APC leader had with reporters in Akure last weekend, he said the report “opted to gain false sensation by completely mocking the tenor of the brief banter Asiwaju Tinubu had with journalists at the inauguration of Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
“When asked about future political office, Asiwaju said he could not discount that possibility if the nation called upon him for such service, provided, he emphasized, that all political conditions were appropriate; particularly the office in question would have to be vacant, even if it’s local government chairmanship.
“In our political lexicon, this means the office is not held by a member of the APC in good standing. We all know this.
“Moreover, if you really listen to his words, Asiwaju did not mention any office or any time-frame. The conditions he mentioned may not become ripe for years to come and they might not pertain to the Presidency. In effect, all Asiwaju said was the position that any political figure would hold.
“As a politician, he cannot preclude the possibility of running for office in the future because no man knows what the future will hold. To translate this general statement of political reality into a tale that he is actively preparing for a 2019 presidential run is reckless in the extreme.”
No list of possible running mates
“Asiwaju Tinubu has not held any planning meetings for any such presidential campaign and is not contemplating any such meetings. He has no present list of possible running mates because he has no present intention of running.
“The headline also libels Asiwaju by asserting he was going to join the PDP. This is as shameless as a lie can be. Asiwaju is acknowledged to be the intellectual father and the driving force behind the APC.
“It makes no sense that he would abandon the party that he worked hard to build in order to enter the dilapidated building the PDP has become. Asiwaju worked for over 16 years to break the PDP yoke on the nation.
“After breaking that yoke, it is not in his nature to voluntarily place it back on our necks. Anyone who has followed his career, even his staunchest critics, knows Asiwaju for his partisan consistency.
“He is not a party hopper. He is loyal and sticks with the party to which he belongs.”
After fighting for so many years to elevate his party to the position of national leadership, he would not give that away in order to join with those who blame him for their currently bleak political circumstance.’’
Concluding that the newspaper had joined “with those who seek to put Asiwaju Tinubu at odds with our President,” he said: “This scam will fail. Asiwaju supports and stands behind President Buhari. He wishes the President well and that he returns soon. ‘’Whether the President is here or away, he has the full loyalty of Asiwaju Tinubu. President Buhari can rest assured on this point: Asiwaju Tinubu will never contest against him nor will he support anyone who does.”

The ongoing onslaught by the Nigerian Police against the Peace Corps of Nigeria, took a dramatic step on Tuesday, when the Officers of the Police invaded the new National Headquarters of the Corps, taking into custody, the National Commandant, Amb. Dickson Akoh.
The youth based organisation whose Bill was recently passed by the National Assembly, had recently come under serious attack by the Police, which had kicked against the establishment of the Corps, during the public hearing at the National Assembly.
